The course will give you confidence in you own creative ability and simple to understand creative thinking tools and techniques that really work.  It is designed to be used by anyone at any level - even if they think they're not creative.

One Day (10 - 5 pm)

Objectives:

This course uses presentations, examples and exercises to introduce theories of creative thinking,  practical creativity techniques from musical activities and performance and provides an inventory of creative thinking tools and techniques that can be quickly understood and used.  This is practical and interactive course which requires no previous knowledge of creativity or music.

  • Myths, Facts and Rumours about creative thinking.
  • Defining creativity.
  • Music and creative thinking.
  • Finding and developing your own creativity.
  • First steps in becoming a creative thinker

Session Two

  • Using creative thinking for problem solving and idea generation. 
  • Generating and evaluating ideas.
  • Recognising and removing blocks to creative thinking
  • Music and Innovation
  • More on becoming a creative thinker

Session Three

  • Applying creative thinking to real problems
  • Putting your creativity to the test
  • Managing resistance to new ideas
  • Herding cats - managing creative people
  • Discussion and summary

Costs:

Total course fee is £200 + VAT (£235 total)  This includes a course workbook.

Trainer Backgrounds:

Maria Thomas

Maria Thomas is a musician with wide experience of performing, leading workshops and management.

After working in the Orchestral Management department at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Maria started her own business supplying tailored music workshops to schools, local authorities and other organisations. Maria has also been instrumental in the launch of the new professional chamber orchestra the Manning Camerata which launched earlier this year.

She has a BMus (hons) and an LTCL from Trinity College of Music, London

 

Brian Hunt

Brian Hunt has a business and engineering background and has worked at all organisational levels from shop floor to senior management.

Over the last ten years he has been creatively applying his design and engineering experience to helping organisations simplify their business processes and quality management systems.  He has a special interest in creative thinking and ideas schemes in organisations.

He also runs the websites www.creativeideas.org.uk and www.sanguma.com

He has a BSc from the Open University, and an MSc from the University of Hertfordshire.
