Some differences between right and left brain thinking: |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Most of us tend to be biased to right or left qualities. But we can learn to be more creative in generating ideas and solving problems by making more effective use of both left and right brain approaches to thinking. These are complimentary and the most powerful intellects make full use of them. For example, Einstein was an accomplished violinist while Leonardo da Vinci is famed for his engineering and his art. For a creative idea to have value it needs to have practical use. The right brain can act as 'dreamer' and the left brain act as an objective critic. Switching between both thinking styles can produce ideas that are creative, innovative and practical. Note that this is similar to the style of idea generation used by Walt Disney and defined as "Disney Thinking" where ideas are developed using three different mindsets: Dreamer, Critic and Realist.
